We’ve heard it time and again: Protect your skin from the sun’s damaging rays if you want to keep it looking younger longer. For those of us who may have needed a little extra convincing, the New England Journal of Medicine recently released this image of a 69-year-old truck driver. Due to his profession behind the wheel, just one side of this man’s face received decades of intense sun exposure. See for yourself: the result is a stunning reminder of the damage the sun can do.
What do we recommend? Tan is no longer “in.” If possible, avoid the sun during mid-day, when the UV rays can do the most damage. When you are in the sun, thoroughly cover your skin with a professional-grade sunblock with a minimum SPF of 30. Wide-brimmed hats can be quite fashionable, and will protect the delicate skin of your face. If you still believe that a deep tan looks healthy and great today, consider how your skin will look as you age. Years of prematurely aged skin, are just not worth a few months of looking bronze today.
