Many of us have a love-hate relationship with New Year’s resolutions. We make them, promptly break them, and end up feeling lousy about ourselves, when all we really wanted was to feel good about ourselves!
We’d like to help you break this time-old cycle of frustration by offering an alternative to the traditional new year’s resolutions of diets and Don’ts. Instead of depriving yourself, it’s time to start indulging in yourself.
Here are a few simple ideas:
Take two.
You work hard for your family and job, but when it comes to meeting your own needs, we bet you skimp on yourself in favor of caring for others. What you may not realize is that skipping self-care can be detrimental to your health by inflating your stress level and lowering your immunity. Luckily, practicing self-care isn’t as hard to do as you may think. It can be as simple as taking two minutes out of your day to breathe slowly. Deep, slow breathing reduces your heart rate and sends calming signals to your brain.
Try something new.
We know we’re biased, but we love trying new cosmetic treatments and products! Is there a treatment you’ve always wanted to try, but haven’t gotten around to? For example, are you curious about non-invasive fat reduction with Vanquish ME™, or a skin renewing treatment to diminish lines and wrinkles like fractional laser skin resurfacing? A new year is a great time to treat yourself and try something new, just because.
Think small.
We tend to think big when it comes to setting self-improvement goals like losing weight or being “healthier.” But little things can add up! Instead of jogging five miles, start power-walking around the block. Rather than cutting your caloric intake in half, substitute unsweetened tea for soda. Skip that expensive new gym membership with morning stretches and strengthening by your bed. The plank (pictured above) is a handy yoga pose that can strengthen every muscle in your body, and all you need to do it is yourself and a floor!
Start the new year off right with simple, daily acts of self care. For more ideas, schedule a consultation by calling 303.327.7300 or clicking here today.
