Deciding whether or not to undergo breast augmentation is a highly personal decision that depends on many variables. Whether your breasts deflated after nursing or you’ve always wanted larger breasts, it’s our job and privilege to help you determine your most flattering and effective surgical plan.
As one of the leading providers of breast augmentation and breast surgery in the Denver area, we get asked about breast augmentation all the time. To help you make an informed decision, here’s a look at the most common questions we hear, along with some expert answers:
What’s the difference between saline and silicone implants?
All breast implants are FDA-approved and have a silicone shell. The difference is in the filling.
A silicone implant is considered by many to create a more natural look and feel to the breast than saline implants. Dr. Tanya A. Atagi primarily uses silicone implants for breast augmentation. Saline implants, on the other hand, contain saline. Saline implants can be inserted as empty shells into the body and filled with sterile salt water by the surgeon.
Is breast augmentation safe?
Silicone breast implants are the most widely studied medical device ever, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. FDA-directed studies have found no association between silicone implants and chronic autoimmune disease. What’s more, Dr. Tanya A. Atagi is one of the top specialists in breast augmentation, and one of only a few female plastic surgeons in the Denver area. She has published papers on the safety and efficacy of breast implants. We want you to know that you are in the best of hands at Atagi Plastic Surgery and Skin Aesthetics for all your breast surgery needs.
How much downtime is there?
We recommend taking at least a week off work after breast enhancement. You will also need to avoid strenuous lifting or activities for up to two weeks following your surgery.
What size is right for me?
Dr. Atagi will help you determine your ideal size and type of implants during your consultation, taking into account your body size and goals. You will try on “sizers” during your consult to get a better idea of the look you desire. Dr. Atagi will also encourage you to do a little “homework” and bring in breast photos you like, which will help Dr. Atagi form a clearer vision of your desired goal.
