Many women are uncomfortable with breast augmentation because they feel like they just don’t have enough information. Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Tanya Atagi, explains the basics of breast augmentation and recognizes that each woman’s goals and body are different. She highly recommends a one-on-one consultation with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon as the best way to determine which options are right for you.
Breast Augmentation is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the US. Size, incision type, implant placement, implant type and whether you should also consider a breast lift are a few of the options you’ll need to discuss with your surgeon.
There are two FDA-approved implant options for breast augmentation — saline or silicone gel-filled implants. At your initial consultation with Dr. Atagi, one of Denver’s few female, board-certified plastic surgeons, she will discuss the pros and cons related to each. Also at your initial consultation, Dr. Atagi will have you try on “sizers” to help you chose your desired fullness. Breast augmentation is typically a 2-hour procedure, performed through small, hidden incisions around the areola or in the inframammary (crease or fold incision). It can give you the fullness you desire, improve your proportion, and expand your clothing options. Implants are placed either over, sub-glandular, or behind, sub-muscular, the pectoralis muscle. There are a variety of pros and cons to each which Dr. Atagi and her team will review at your initial consultation.
