The popularity of chinplants in the United States is growing…rapidly. According to the annual report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) released in April, a total of 10,593 men had the procedure in 2011, a 76 percent increase over the prior year, and 10,087 women had the procedure, a 66 percent rise, for a combined total of 71 percent.
Why the sudden…chinterest?
First we should begin with what a chinplant is. A chinplant is a chin augmentation which is performed in order to correct a small or receding chin, a chin that looks too small in comparison with other facial features or to answer a general desire for a stronger chin. An implant is placed through a small incision under the chin that is nearly imperceptible; dermal injectable fillers can also be used to replenish lost volume, correct asymmetry and restore youthful fullness.
Experts believe that the public has become increasingly aware of the weak profile as our images are being captured more and more by smartphones and we are seeing ourselves in video-chat programs like Skype and FaceTime. We are becoming more in tune to facial balance. If a strong chin is associated with leadership and ultimately, success, a weak chin may subconsciously be associated with the opposite. “Once a chinplant is performed, people are amazed by the balance and harmony it brings to their face,” explains Dr. Tanya Atagi, Plastic Surgeon and Medical Director of Denver’s own, Atagi Plastic Surgery & Atagi Skin Aesthetics. Dr. Atagi continues, “The eyes can appear larger, more alert and brighter, the nose smaller, and the neck more toned and defined, it truly is transforming.”
“Chin augmentation can be subtle yet dramatically enhance the entire face,” explains Dr. Atagi. The procedure is relatively simple but it requires meticulous skill and an excellent aesthetic eye. That is why so many people in and around Denver choose Dr. Atagi to perform their chinplant. Dr. Atagi’s unique combination of interests, advanced training and experience includes a passion for art, fashion and design. This passion led her to attain her second BA in Art Design. As a result, her work in plastic surgery is not only technically advanced but aesthetically pleasing as well.
“I would suggest that those who are interested in a chinplant schedule a consultation with me. Together, we can evaluate the options and determine what approach will provide the most attractive and satisfying results.”
