Gone are the days when we thought plastic surgery was only for women. When it comes to looking great, more men than ever are stepping forward and seeking cosmetic surgery for a more youthful appearance. In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, (ASPS), men now account for about 10 percent of all plastic surgery procedures performed. Of these, the ASPS says eyelid surgeries and facelifts are among the most common surgeries for both men and women looking to appear younger, in part, to advance their careers.
Indeed, eyelid lifts for men (blepharoplasties) are rapidly gaining popularity. According to Dr. Tanya Atagi, an eyelid lift can make a dramatic difference in helping a person look younger and more refreshed and rested. Heavy, drooping skin around the eyes can create a tired disinterested appearance, puffiness and “bags,” which in turn makes a person look older.
Dr. Atagi typically performs an upper eyelid lift in her Lone Tree, Colorado office using a local anesthetic. The surgery typically takes approximately one and a half hours, and most patients return to normal activities with very little downtime. During the eyelid lift procedure, Dr. Atagi removes excess skin hanging over the eyelashes or eyes, using a thin incision concealed in the natural fold of the eyelid. Adding laser treatments to the lower eyelids and crow’s feet wrinkles can complete the rejuvenation.
According to Dr. Atagi, blepharoplasty sutures are removed in 5-7 days. Patients return to light or normal activity as soon as they feel ready, usually within a few days of the surgery.
